How to use every feature of the free GPS travel toolkit for Japan.
Getting Started
Japan Travel Concierge works entirely in your phone’s browser. No download, no account needed.
Step 1: Open the app URL in Safari, Chrome, or any mobile browser.
Step 2: Allow location access when prompted. This powers all the GPS-based search features.
Step 3: Tap any button to find what you need nearby.
That’s it. The app auto-detects your phone’s language and displays in English, Japanese, Korean, or Chinese.
Finding Food
Tap the “Find Restaurants” button (the big one at the top). You’ll see categories like:
-
Ramen — Japan’s iconic noodle soup
-
Sushi & Sashimi — conveyor belt or traditional
-
Izakaya — Japanese-style pubs, great for groups
-
Yakiniku — grill wagyu beef at your table
-
Vegetarian / Vegan — filtered results for plant-based dining
-
Halal — certified halal restaurants near you
Each option opens Google Maps centered on your location, showing the nearest matching restaurants with reviews and directions.
Saving Your Hotel
This is one of the most useful features. Tap “Hotel” and enter your hotel’s name or address. Tap “Save.” Now, anywhere in Japan, you can tap one button to get train, walking, or taxi directions back to your hotel. The name stays saved even if you close the browser.
Using the Train Guide
Japan’s train system is amazing but confusing for first-timers. The Train Guide panel explains:
-
How to buy tickets (most machines have an English button)
-
IC Cards (Suica/Pasmo) — rechargeable tap cards that work everywhere
-
JR Pass — unlimited travel on JR lines, best purchased before arrival
-
Train manners — no phone calls, queue on platform markings
Storing Luggage
Dragging suitcases through Tokyo is no fun. The Luggage panel helps you find:
-
Coin lockers — at most train stations (search by size)
-
Luggage storage services — ecbo cloak lets you book storage at shops
-
Yamato delivery — send bags from any convenience store to your next hotel for ¥1,500–2,500
Emergency Situations
Tap Emergency for one-tap access to:
-
110 — Police
-
119 — Fire and Ambulance
-
0570-000-911 — JNTO Tourist Helpline (English, 24/7)
You can also search for nearby hospitals with English support, pharmacies, and police stations (koban).
The “Show to a Local” Trick
This is the secret weapon. If you’re lost or need help, tap the language button (🌐) and switch to Japanese. Now show your phone screen to any Japanese person nearby. They’ll immediately understand what you’re looking for and can help you. Switch back to your language when you’re done.
Adjusting Search Radius
The distance bar at the top lets you choose 500m, 1km, 3km, or 5km. In dense city areas like Shibuya, 500m is enough. In rural areas, expand to 5km. This applies to all searches.
